November 2016

Fundraiser a Success

The 2016 Annual Party and Golf Classic took place November 20th & 21st and was a great success! This year, the entire event took place at Stone Eagle Golf Club, which proved an amazing venue! At nearly 1,000 feet elevation, Sunday Annual Party guests enjoyed incredible valley views while dining on a delectable dinner and bidding on an array of silent auction items. The evening culminated with an exciting live auction. Monday morning saw some much-needed rain in the early hours then the clouds parted, the sun came out and it was a gorgeous day for the Golf Classic. Dave Stockton and the other pros gave a professional's clinic before sending the golfers out on the course. All of the golfers enjoyed their day and we would like to congratulate this year's winners: Harvey Brown, Nico Garcia, and Joe Dooty. Thank you to all of the participants, golf pros, donors, and volunteers who helped make this year's fundraiser a success! A special thanks to Nick Coussoulis Stone Eagle Golf Club for allowing us at Stone Eagle as well as Dave Stockton and Stockton Golf for their expertise and generosity in this year's event. We would also like to thank all of the media sponsors who donated much-needed and most-helpful air time including Marker Broadcasting (Big106, Kool 95.9, Q102.3), KESQ, KMIR, CBS2, and Fox11.

Public Outreach

November had a number of great publicity opportunities for the Institute as well as unique situations to educate the public. The Big106 radio aired their Access Show on the Institute with Dave Stockton as a special guest (interview available on our website). Golf is a 4 Letter Word radio show also had Dave on to promote the Golf Classic fundraiser, but to also talk about its cause, the bighorn sheep and the Institute (interview available on our website). CoachellaValley.com came out to do a Facebook Live video tour of the Institute's facilities (see link below to recent media) and we hosted a group of around 20 volunteers from Friends of the Desert Mountains and educated them about the bighorn and the Institute's conservation efforts. They lead interpretive hikes so it's vital that they are well informed to educate others. Finally, there were a couple of nice articles written about the Institute and our work in CV Weekly and on CoachellaValley.com (see article links below).

Member Hike

Want to try to see bighorn sheep with us? Our next Member Hike will be Friday December 16th at 8:00am. December is the last month that Carrizo and Dead Indian Canyons will be opened prior to a 9 month closure to protect the endangered Peninsular bighorn sheep so we will hike there one last time. We would love to have you join us, but space is limited, no dogs, and you must RSVP for this first come first served hike. To sign up or for more information, please call us at 760-346-7334 or email us at bi@bighorninstitute.org.

Save the Date

Bighorn Institute's annual Membership Meeting will take place on Saturday January 7, 2017, at the Institute. We will review our accomplishments in 2016, goals for 2017 and elect the board of directors. This meeting is open to all members; please RSVP at 760-346-7334.
